Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God. —Psalm 42:5
Have you ever felt like you were out in a stormy sea, and the waves were so strong and the current so great you couldn’t make it back to shore? There are days when we feel as if life will overwhelm us. However, we can find insight into how we can get through those storms and come out on the other side in Psalms 42–43.
In the midst of the psalmist’s desperation and distress (and possibly because of it), he is reminded of God’s presence, His power, and His protection. The psalmist is searching for hope, and he finds it in the truth of who God is.
You will never experience all there is to know of God until you’ve found yourself in a place of desperation, a place where you think you’re drowning. In those most desperate circumstances, you will be driven to the place that is your only true hope—in God.
