Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine he drank. —Daniel 1:8
Daniel and his friends hadn’t forsaken their God or pursued idolatrous lifestyles. And yet they were dealing with the same sense of loss and displacement as the people whom God was disciplining for their disobedience.
The four teenagers could have thought they had every reason to misunderstand God’s actions or resent where He had placed them. You may feel that way, too, at times. Your life may have been made more difficult by the choices and sins of others.
Rain falls on both “the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matt. 5:45). Yet in every trial, God will do whatever is necessary to protect and provide for His children. He won’t forget you in the swirl of what’s happening around you.
These kinds of settings, the ones in which the “why me?” questions are easy to ask, are purposeful. In and through the unknowns, God is carrying out His good, eternal plan. And He often uses these injustices to create a platform from which your life can give powerful witness to His greatness.
