A Tree of Life

September 5, 2022 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Pleasant words are a honeycomb: sweet to the taste and health to the body. —Proverbs 16:24

If you look up the word healing in a thesaurus, you will likely find these words: therapeutic, medicinal, curing. What a blessing it is to experience physical healing from sickness. An even greater blessing is when God uses us as an instrument of spiritual healing in the lives of others.

Proverbs 15:4 says, “The tongue that heals is a tree of life.” Picture a lush redbud or dogwood in the peak of spring. Its branches are filled with dense blossoms announcing that spring has arrived. Its roots dig deeply into the soil, soaking up valuable nutrients, and its leaves are green and healthy—full of new life.

God says that the tongue can be like a tree of life. It can give refreshing words and encouragement to the weary. It can provide support for the anxious. It can freely give kindness to young and old alike.

May God keep watch over our lips. May our tongues minister grace, help, and healing through words of encouragement and blessing.

Make it Personal

Ask the Lord to let the words you speak today be like healing medicine to those who receive them.
