Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? —Psalm 85:6
When I was thirteen or fourteen, I began to encounter some writings of how God had moved in the past in sending revival and spiritual awakening to His Church and to His people. As I encountered these stories, I was mesmerized.
I was raised in a Christian school, Christian church, Christian home. I was surrounded by Christian things, for which I was very thankful. But what I saw in modern-day Christianity didn’t look anything like what I was reading about in these books. Then I would read in Scripture and see what it was like when God moved in an extraordinary way to manifest His presence among His people. And I was hooked.
My heart just began to cry out, “Lord, You’ve done it before. Would You do it again?”
Just as the prophet in Isaiah 64 calls for the Lord to come down from heaven and intervene in his people’s desperate situation, I long for God to come and visit us with His presence. That He would rend the heavens and come down.
Make it Personal
Read about some past revivals in church history, like the Prayer Revival of 1857 or the Welsh Revival. Then ask God to do it again.
