I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? —Psalm 121:1
When I feel like my heart is about to fail or I want to throw in the towel, I usually sit on the balcony of my house to look at the mountains. That’s when Psalm 121:1 comes to mind.
As I read this verse, I repeatedly tell my soul that my help only comes from God, that He is in control of the situation. These words give me hope and encouragement that this situation will pass. Although I’m still in the midst of suffering, He is the one who keeps my soul.
The psalmist had the habit of speaking to his soul in times of anguish and tribulation. The interesting thing is that he takes the suffering and focuses it on God while he encourages his soul to wait on the Lord. That should be our way of living too! We must speak God’s Word to our souls and fill our minds and hearts with it, because only then can we face the trials that come into our lives in the right way.
