The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. —Romans 8:2
Christ died to overcome sin and set us free. But when we choose to sin rather than obey God, we’re giving sin the right to rule in our lives. And when we make those choices repeatedly, we establish habit patterns that can be difficult to break.
That’s when the devil begins to convince us that our lives can never be different. So, we give up. Satan has succeeded in making us believe we cannot walk in consistent victory over temptation and sin.
Remember this: What we believe determines the way we live. If we believe we’re going to sin, then we will. If we believe we have no choice but to live in bondage, we will. If we believe we can’t live victorious lives, we won’t. But even though it’s true that we’re powerless to change ourselves, we can expe- rience real, everyday victory over sin through Christ’s finished work on the cross. Satan is no longer our master, and we are no longer helpless slaves to sin.
