How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. —Psalm 119:9
This past year, I’ve read through the Bible three times, in order to get a bird’s-eye view of the panoramic plan of God. The view was magnificent—much like the spectacular vista from a mountain peak. There are themes that run like rivers from Genesis to Revelation— at points they are just a trickle; at other places they become a powerful, gushing force.
Like threads in a great tapestry, those themes are woven together to form the matchless story of Redemption. God’s plan to create and redeem a race for Himself; His unending love, mercy, and grace; His long-suffering toward sinners, and yet His righteous judgment against those who refuse to repent; the wiles and persistent hatred and rebellion of Satan against God; Satan’s never-ending attempts to persuade man to join him in his sedition; God’s ultimate, decisive triumph over Satan and His eternal rule over heaven and earth and hell—these are some of the overarching views that have filled my vision as I have looked at the Scripture as a whole.
