The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. —Psalm 121:7–8
Esther’s life was marked by tragedy; she was an orphan and lived in exile. Then she was taken (most likely against her will) to be part of the king’s harem.
As you read her story in the Bible, you’ll see that Esther was a woman of poise and admirable character. She may have felt abandoned and alone, separated from all that was familiar. But unbeknownst to her, she was being watched by someone who deeply cared for her—her cousin Mordecai.
Mordecai’s watchful care over his adopted daughter is a picture of God. When you are “imprisoned” in circumstances out of your control—even if you’re to blame—you’re not alone. You may feel trapped, with no way out, but your heavenly Father is there. The Lord watches what is happening to you and observes how you are doing. In time, God will defeat your enemy’s objectives and fulfill His holy purpose for your life.
Make it Personal
Pray through Psalm 121, personalizing it with your own name, as a reminder that the Lord is watching over you.
