Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. —Psalm 90:12
God has given us a finite number of minutes, hours, and days. They are His, not ours. One day we will stand before Him to give an account of what we did with the few short years He allotted to us on earth. How will we not regret all those hours we mindlessly idled away on “trivial pursuits,” while giving little thought to how our lives could advance His kingdom?
Perhaps you’re still young and not consciously mindful of the value of each day. I assure you that the investments you make now, using your time, abilities, and opportunities to bring glory to God, will multiply throughout your lifetime and beyond.
Or perhaps you’re not so young anymore, and you realize you’ve squandered too much of your life on things that bring little return in eternity. Then start afresh today, recapturing the joy of investing yourself in worship, ministry, service, sacrifice, and renewing neglected relationships. It’s not too late—or too early—to start investing your life with the long term in view.
