Seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business. —1 Thessalonians 4:11
Have you ever been so invested in someone else’s business that you stopped tending to your own? Sometimes we can become so enthralled with what others are doing we forget to do what we’re supposed to do. Then we find ourselves stressed and unable to adequately care for ourselves.
In 1 Thessalonians, Paul commended the church for their love toward one another. However, that commendation didn’t come without a challenge. He urged them to show their love even more by minding their own business. Paul wasn’t calling the Thessalonians (or us) to bury our heads in the sand when we see problem areas in our loved ones’ lives. Instead, he admonished us to be a good testimony and less of a burden to others by ensuring we take care of our own business first!
I don’t know whose business you’re minding today. But it’s wise to heed the words of the Lord. Ultimately, when we follow God’s way on this matter, it’s not only a blessing to us but a blessing to those around us.
