Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality. —Romans 12:13
I grew up in a home where my mother was intentional about practicing hospitality. Her sister lived abroad and often asked my mother to host some of her friends. It didn’t matter if they were my mother’s friends or not; she went out of her way to serve them.
I learned by example to serve the unknown. Years later as my husband and I raised our children, we intentionally passed on this same principle. We wanted our children to see that we were willing to share whatever we had with whomever God brought to our home. It might have been a room, a cup of coffee and the gospel, a meal for a tired visitor . . . the opportunities were endless!
Teach your children that biblical hospitality isn’t just opening your house to the known brother but to the stranger, serving and loving him. That is the heart of Christ who left everything for us, who has prepared a home for us where He awaits us.
