So you've decided to get serious about reading God's Word. You've read Lies Young Women Believe and been challenged to abandon lies and pursue God's truth. What's more, God has given you a passion to become a truthspeaker to your generation. Now what? I want to push you out of your comfort zone this year by asking you to launch a Lies Young Women Believe Bible study in your community. I want you to take the truth that God has been teaching you and pass it on to other young women in your circle of influence. Here are some tips to get you started:
1. Pray!
If lives are changed as a result of this study it will be because of the power of God's truth, and it will happen through the promptings of the Holy Spirit. It is so important that before you take action, you stop and pray. Ask for God's guidance every step of the way. Specifically pray for wisdom as you lead others through the material found in the book. Ask others to pray with you. There are likely many women in your church or youth group who would be able to help in this way. Seek to secure as much prayer cover as possible for yourself, other leaders, and the girls who will be attending the study.
2. Recruit help.
If you are a young woman desiring to teach this information to your peers, recruit an adult to help. Talk to your youth pastor's wife, your Sunday school teacher, your mom, or another adult woman you know and trust, and ask if they can help in any way. They might be willing to open their home, provide snacks, or even co-teach. Also, most of the issues presented in this book are very serious. You may uncover areas of sin and hurt in the lives of the girls who are participating that you are unprepared to deal with on your own. Don't hesitate to ask for help from others. Your pastor and youth pastor are likely great resources. You can also check back here to get advice and support from others.
3. Get a copy of Lies Young Women Believe and a companion guide for each girl.
Much of the information in this book needs to be processed at an individual level. Girls will need time to think through the information and process it on their own. If each girl has her own book, she can read through it and journal in between the times you meet.
4. Use this website as a resource.
I hope that many of you will accept this challenge to launch Lies Young Women Believe Bible studies in your own communities. When you do, you will literally be sharing this experience with girls from across the country. What an amazing pool of insight! Tap into it. Hop on this blog any time you have a question or prayer need. Commit to pray for one each other, and be a source of encouragement to other leaders and participants.
