A Thirsty Woman

Can you imagine what it’s like to be in an auditorium with 8000+ women who are hungry and thirsty for Him?  It’s like no other experience in life. This is my very first full-fledged True Woman Conference. I attended the Women’s Ministry Leaders Conference in 2011 but that was just an appetizer.  This is the full course meal – and it is awesome!

Janet Parshall’s message from John 4 was powerful and convicting as she reminded us that God is able to use women who have fallen and who have made terrible mistakes. Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba, and Ruth head up the list, but we can all add our own names to the scores of women who He has redeemed and used for His own purposes.

I have often struggled with a sense of unworthiness, feeling that my sinful heart and ways render me useless in the Master’s hands. But oh what amazing love we hear in the verses of this Bible story.

Jesus Seeks Us First
Little did this Samaritan woman know as she picked up her waterpot to go and draw water that she would meet the One who would satisfy the longing of her parched soul. While she was making her way to the well, He was finishing up a two-day journey, trampling over all of the cultural and legal barriers that separated them. It’s a joy to know that when we are completely oblivious to Him, He is pursuing us and removing all that stands in the way of us seeing Him.

Jesus Loves Us
The sin of the Samaritan woman did not keep the Master from seeking her heart. She had a bad reputation and a bad attitude on top of that. She was a social outcast: The law allowed up to three divorces, yet she had had five and was living with someone. And to top it all off, she was disrespectful and evasive as she conversed with the Lord of the universe. Can you see yourself in this woman? I see myself in her as I avoid the subject when He speaks to my heart seeking to draw me closer as I seek for my soul to be satisfied in so many other ways.

Jesus Satisfies Our Thirst
Jesus reveals that He is the living water that she is thirsting for that will never run out . . . will never fail. Praise God for this truth! Many of us have made our way to True Woman 2012 because we, like the Samaritan woman, find that our hearts are dry, barren, and thirsty. We have been met in this place by this powerful truth. He is still the living water that says to us today: “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14).

Have you been seeking to satisfy the thirst of your heart in ways that are dishonoring to God? Have you been listening to the lies of the enemy that say that God couldn’t love you? Have you been in bondage to addictions that offer to fill that empty place in your soul? How has this message spoken to your heart?
