You are welcome here. You are part of what God is going to do here.
Those two sentences have been running through my head since Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth opened up Revive '19 this afternoon. She wasn’t just speaking to the live audience; she was speaking to women on the livestream. She was talking to you.
I’ve been praying for you, friend. I don’t know what today has been like for you: you may be reading these words from your bathroom rug, back against the tub, breathing deep so your medicine stays down. You may be in bed before 7:00 p.m. because the pain is too much to withstand. You may be watching the online content by yourself, wondering if anyone realizes you were not able to come to the conference this weekend.
Oh, how I wish you were right here with us.
You probably know firsthand that when it comes to chronic illness, the physical aspects aren’t always the hardest. In the midst of my worst Lyme flare-ups, what has always hurt the most is the isolation, the loneliness, and the lies that make you think you’re missing out on “real life” as long as you’re sick.
Friend, we serve a big God. Your circumstances may have kept you from the Indianapolis Convention Center today, but they are not keeping Christ from you. Will you stop right now and ask Him to draw near? That situation you’re in right now, the very one keeping you from stepping foot in the Sagamore Ballroom, is the setting in which God has designed for you to seek Him.
Earlier this afternoon, I thought of you when the worship team opened the prayer gathering with this old song. As they started playing and women began singing, “I am desperate for You,” I prayed that God would help you to no longer despise the desperate circumstances you’re in, but that He would use them to send you to the feet of Jesus.
Neediness is not a bad thing, friend, and it may have prepared you for tonight more than you realize. Because this is where we’re starting the weekend, and this is where we’ll end: with the confession and confidence that our only hope is Christ.
I know your Revive ’19 experience may not look the way you wanted. As long as symptoms continue, you may need to worship with the volume off, pray with a heating pad on your spine, or go to sleep before a session ends—but none of those things will keep God from accomplishing what He has planned or prevent you from participating in what He is doing tonight in Indianapolis, internationally, and in your bedroom.
