This morning I heard a 13-year-old boy who had just returned from a missions trip to El Salvador say, “I’m convinced that the more you have . . . the more you want . . . and the more discontent you become.” Smart kid, eh?
Nancy’s third principle in “Hope for Uncertain Times: Surviving—And Thriving—In An Economic Crisis” is:
Learn the secret of contentment.
Contentment flows out of believing that God has provided everything we need for the present moment and that He will provide all we need in the future. (Psalm 73:25; Phil. 4:11-13; 1 Tim. 6:6-8).
She then goes on to ask,
Are any seeds of discontentment evident in your words or spirit—murmuring, complaining, fretting, expressing that what God has provided is not sufficient to meet your needs?
I’d love to hear from you! Do you believe God has provided everything you need for the present moment? For tomorrow? Or do you see some of these seeds of discontentment in your life that Nancy mentioned?
