The past couple of days we’ve been talking about simplifying your home and office of the “crush of stuff.” Please don’t stop there, though. You and I need some soul simplifying, too! Recently, I stumbled across Elisabeth Elliot’s take on the greatest simplifier for all of life:
Lord, You have assigned my portion and my cup, and have made my lot secure’ (Psalm 16:5 NIV). I know of no greater simplifier for all of life. Whatever happens is assigned . . . Every assignment is measured and controlled for my eternal good. As I accept the given portion other options are cancelled. Decisions become much easier, directions clearer, and hence my heart becomes inexpressibly quieter.
Do you believe that every bit of your life is assigned by a personal, powerful, loving God? How does this “simplify your soul” today?
Elisabeth is not the only one with a really great take on “soul priorities.” All this week, Nancy Leigh DeMoss is talking about “First Things First.” I’m so grateful she’s teaching through the acronym “PRIORITIES” right now. Here’s a sneak peek to whet your appetite:
Pray
Review & receive God’s priorities for your life
Inventory
Order your schedule & activities
Resist the tyranny of the urgent
Input from other people
Take advantage of the time God gives you
Identify time robbers
Experience this season and this moment fully
Sabbaths + Stay sensitive & surrendered to the Spirit
