The Truth About God's Plans for You

Knowing that God wants you to do something for Him and has a plan for your life is one of the best feelings in the world. It's exciting. It's invigorating. It's terrifying.

In Genesis 46:1–4, Jacob began his journey to Egypt to be reunited with his beloved son Joseph. The journey wouldn't be easy for the aging patriarch, but it was God's plan for Jacob and his family.

Jacob's example gives us some good insight into the truth about God's plans for our lives.

The reason Jacob was headed to Egypt in the first place was because of the famine. Because of his hunger, Jacob took the first decisive step of faith to begin walking toward Egypt. As you get up and start walking, God will show you the way.

The best plans you undertake for God start in worship. In Genesis 46:1, we learn this key point: "Jacob came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac." Regardless of what you're going to face down the road—whether you encounter great successes or deep difficulties—set your heart on worshiping God today before you see the answers tomorrow! Vertical worship sets up the way for horizontal victory.

When Jacob worshiped the Lord, God spoke to him and said: "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt." I love how God knows His plans for us are scary. He knows it's frightening to obey Him! The good news is: He calls us by name and already knows the way. So don't let fear get you off the road of God's plans for your life. The key to overcoming your fear is to listen to God's promises; the more you listen to His promises, the louder those promises will become.

Finally, God tells Jacob: "I myself will go down with you to Egypt." Boom! That's it right there. God's presence is how we can overcome our fears and face tomorrow. His presence is what assures us the victory. His presence is our comfort and our peace! With God there is peace in the storm and rest from the enemy.

  1. Famine sets up a miracle
  2. Worship welcomes breakthrough
  3. Fear is natural and can be overcome
  4. God's presence is the one thing you can't let go of

His presence is the difference.

There's nothing like living out God's plans for your life. And there is no place so perfect as the place of God's presence. I am so grateful for God's presence as we walk in His plans. Aren't you?
