WEEK 3: God Is Faithful to the End

DAY 1

READ: Luke 21:5–9

What does Jesus mean by “the end”? “The end” means the time before Jesus comes again. The first time Jesus came to earth He came to live and die for us (John 10:17–18). When Jesus comes again He will rescue His children from evil just as God promised. People will try to fool us and some will even do bad things, trying to scare us. But Jesus told us these things so that we don’t have to be afraid. We can trust Him. God’s Word tells us the Truth. God tells us what will happen so we will trust Him and not be afraid.

TALK ABOUT IT

  • What does “the end” mean?
  • Why does God plan for Jesus to come again?
  • Why does God tell us what will happen?

DAY 2

READ: Luke 21:10–19

What will happen before Jesus comes again? Many wars, earthquakes, and pandemics will happen. Many people will be hungry. Scary things will happen on earth and in the sky. People who hate Jesus will hate those who love Jesus. When these hard things happen, God will give us the words to say. God’s children may lose their lives on earth but never lose their life with Him in heaven. Jesus has gone before us. He tells us to ask for His help and persevere. God tells us what will happen so we will trust Him and stand firm.

TALK ABOUT IT

  • What will happen before Jesus comes?
  • What are we to do when these hard things happen?
  • Where do you need God’s help to stand firm and not give up?

DAY 3

READ: Luke 21:25–28

How should we wait for Jesus? While we wait for Jesus, God’s children keep on loving God (2 Pet. 3:11–14). How can our love for God grow when bad things happen? God gives us the Bible so we can know and love Him. God gives us prayer so we can talk to Him. We learn that doing what He says gives us joy. While we wait God makes us more like Jesus. He lets us tell other people about Jesus so that they, too, can have hope and not be afraid. God tells us to watch for Jesus and be ready for Him (Matt. 24:42–44).

TALK ABOUT IT

  • How does our love for God grow?
  • When have you felt greater love for God as you read the Bible and obeyed Him?
  • How will you watch for Jesus and be ready for Him?

PRAY: Father God, You are faithful. Thank You that we can trust Your promise to send Jesus again. I want to read the Bible, but I too easily think of other things to do. Please help my love for You grow. Help me know the joy of listening to and obeying Your Word. I want to be ready for Jesus’ return.

DAY 4

WHO IS GOD? GOD IS FAITHFUL

Every sunrise, sunset, and changing season reminds us that God is FAITHFUL (Gen. 8:22). God never forgets. God never fails to do all He has promised(Num. 23:19). God has always planned to restore the world that sin broke (Gen. 3:15; 1 Pet. 1:18–20). God faithfully tells us that Jesus Christ will come again (1 Thess. 5:1–4). God gave us the faith to believe in Jesus, and He will strengthen us to believe even when it is hard (1 Cor. 1:8–9). How are we to wait and watch for Jesus’ return? God’s children protect their hearts from sin (Prov. 4:23; Matt. 26:41; Luke 21:8, 19; Rom. 13:14). A barking dog sometimes protects our homes from thieves. Much more, Jesus guards our hearts. In faithfulness, God keeps His children faithful to the end of their lives (1 Thess. 5:23–24; Jude 24–25). Because God is FAITHFUL His children will find their final joy with Him forever (Rom. 8:17–21; Col. 3:4).

ACTIVITY: Talk about what it means to wait and watch for Jesus’ return. How are God’s Word and prayer like a guard dog around our heart?

MEMORY VERSE: Luke 21:27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
