We encouraged, comforted, and implored each one of you to walk worthy of God. —1 Thessalonians 2:12
Encouragement doesn’t always mean telling people “nice” stuff to make them feel good. Sometimes it’s providing correction. It takes a humble heart to receive this type of exhortation.
God recently gave me the opportunity to practice this principle. One night, my husband sweetly exhorted me . . . about the issue of encouragement. He shared about ways I sometimes discourage him—and I’m sure others—with my responses.
There’s no one in my life who’s a greater encouragement than Robert Wolgemuth! But there’s also no one better who knows my weaknesses and who’s going to cheer for me as I continue in this race.
How thankful I am for the seed he planted that night—things that were hard to hear. As I seek to be a greater encouragement to my husband and others, I pray the Lord will equip me to exhort them—both in the “nice” stuff and the hard— so that the Body of Christ may be built up to proclaim His name to a lost and hurting world.
