His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness. —2 Peter 1:3
What does it look like to have a life characterized by godliness? It means being devoted to God and living in a way that is morally good. It’s having a right attitude toward Him, evidenced in a life of reverence, worship, and awe.
Of course, that results in the desire to please God in all areas of our lives—what we do, how we talk, our priorities. The godly person is someone who has oriented his whole life around Christ. Pastor and theologian Dr. R.C. Sproul said:
We don’t segment our lives, giving some time to God, some to our business or schooling, while keeping other parts to ourselves. The idea is to live all of our lives in the presence of God, under the authority of God and for the honor and glory of God. That is what the Christian life is all about. 1
Godliness is living all of life for the glory of God and in the presence of God. And the process starts with faith (2 Pet. 1:5).
