Pray without ceasing. —1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
For each of us as believers, our prayer lives will look different. But one thing is commanded of us all—“pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). That may seem a burdensome expectation, maybe even an impossible one. But it’s encouraging that this is God’s call because it means He wants us to come to Him. To dwell with Him. . . . Love Him enough to talk to Him.
Naturally, “pray without ceasing” does not imply uninterrupted twenty-four-hour prayer. It signifies regularity, constancy. Lifestyle. . . .
Certainly, corporate prayer is included, but “without ceasing” primarily involves two people—you and God. And therein lies the intimacy. Imagine one person in your life with whom you talked all the time, about everything. You would be close. If a period of time elapsed in which you had no contact, you would feel it. You would miss it. This connection is what gives you life.
Now, what if this person were God? What if you shared a daily intimacy like this with Him? It is our blessing as believers to have this kind of relationship with God.
