Some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. —1 Corinthians 6:11
In 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, Paul gives a list of sins that characterize the life of one who isn’t saved. And in verse 11, he says, “Some of you used to be like this.”
We’re not supposed to dwell on our sinful past, but I believe God reminds us that we were once slaves to those things for a reason. Thanks be to God that we’re now called “the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:21). Our lives aren’t supposed to be characterized by sin. We have new hearts, new desires, and new life in Christ.
We won’t be sinless (not this side of glory) but walking with the Lord creates intimacy and closeness. Therefore, the light of Christ shines brighter and hits all the cracks and crevices in our lives. More and more, we lose the ability to be okay with even the slightest sin. God hates it all, and so do we!
