A Prepared Heart

January 8, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

In your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. —1 Peter 3:15

If you have an important meeting with your boss first thing tomorrow morning, when do you begin preparing for it? Do you wait until after you get up? Do you suddenly realize the meeting has started, throw on some crumpled clothes, and arrive thirty minutes late? Not if you care about your job.

Preparation is no less crucial to meeting with God and cultivating a relationship with Him through His Word.

In fact, I have found that one of the greatest hindrances to a meaningful quiet time is the failure to have a prepared heart. Hour after hour, throughout each day, our eyes and ears are lured by the world around us. The sights, sounds, and demands of our surroundings have a way of capturing our minds and hearts. That’s why we often find ourselves having quiet times with hearts that are far from quiet. A little bit of preparation can make a big difference.

Make it Personal

Before you meet with the Lord each morning, take time to prepare your heart.
