He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. —Isaiah 9:6
Think of all the names that swirl through your head in a day: names of your friends and family, famous celebrities, product brands. How about the name of Jesus?
We read about this name in the Gospel of Luke, which reports, “He was named Jesus— the name given by the angel before he was conceived” (2:21).
The apostle Paul tells us some more about the significance of that name in Philippians 2. He writes, “For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (vv. 9–10).
The name of Jesus can’t be compared with any other name. His is above every name— above all earthly kings and rulers, above the wealthiest, the brightest, and the most famous. His name is supreme.
Take time today to worship the One whose name is above all other names.
