The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its stomach and thighs were bronze. —Daniel 2:32
The “head of gold” of the statute in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream stood for Nebuchadnezzar himself. “The God of the heavens,” Daniel said to him, “has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and glory” (2:37). Note where the power came from: “God . . . has given.” Never forget that. “Wherever people live—or wild animals, or birds of the sky—he has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all” (v. 38).
Imagine a person of Nebuchadnezzar’s abilities and influence operating his life around that principle, the idea that nothing he possessed was earned, that he owed everything pertaining to his prominent position to the “God of the heavens.” His whole future might have been different. His season of insanity might have been avoided. His kingdom and his people might have been set up for generation after generation of blessing.
The opportunity to lead does not begin with us. Power and leadership are gifts from God.

Make it Personal
How does knowing that all power comes from God change the way you view government officials? Your boss? Your own leadership roles?
