“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” —2 Corinthians 12:9
When we’re going through trials, we think the best solution is for God to remove the problem. However, God’s idea of best and good are often different than ours. And God knows what we really need.
When it came to Paul’s thorn in the flesh, God had something better for Paul than release from his pain. After Paul pleaded with the Lord to remove the thorn, God responded, “My grace is sufficient for you.” God knew that leaving the thorn in place would bring Him greater glory than removing it, and it was also for Paul’s good. The Lord wasn’t going to take away the thorn, but He did give Paul the grace to bear it.
God’s power imparted to Paul in exchange for Paul’s weakness—isn’t that one of the ways of God? We give Him our weakness, our pain, and our suffering. We give Him our thorns and affliction, and God says, “In exchange, I will give you My strength, power, and grace to endure and to glory in the cross.”
