“If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples.” —John 8:31
In John 8, Jesus is speaking to a group of people, including some who were not His followers. In verse 31, He presents the way that they can know if they really love Him, if they really believe in Him.
Imagine that you are part of that group of people that Jesus was speaking to. Would you pass the test?
If you are really Christ’s disciple, then you will stay in His Word. You will dwell in it and meditate on it. Many things may distract you and compete for your attention. However, Jesus wants you to learn to “dwell” in the Word, to remain in it day after day and make it your manual for life.
If you do not abide in His Word, you are not His disciple. This sounds drastic and radical, but it is exactly what Jesus is saying. The proof that you are His is if you hunger for His Word, if you eat it every day, and if you let yourself be governed by it.
Make it Personal
Pray that God would increase your hunger for His Word and that you would dwell in it daily.
