Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. —Romans 12:2
Have you ever considered that fish live in water and don’t realize they’re wet? It’s their natural habitat.
This is often the case with Christians. We live immersed in this culture, in its ideologies and philosophies. We’ve become accustomed to this habitat to the point of feeling at home. And with that contaminated mindset we come to church.
If we want to live in a way that honors our identity as Christians, transforming our minds is a priority. We must intentionally and regularly expose our- selves to God’s Word so that its truths confront the lies we’ve embraced.
Secondly, we must present our lives, bodies, and minds as a living sacrifice to God. It’s no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us. Therefore, each day we must surrender our ideas, opinions, dreams, desires, and wills to Him.
It’s in this continuous process that we deprogram our minds of the garbage we’ve collected from culture and program them instead with a radically different way of thinking, consistent with our citizenship in heaven.
