Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, has been burned by fire, and all our pleasant places have become ruins. —Isaiah 64:11
The Children of Israel have realized that at one time their place of worship was holy and beautiful. Why? Because God was there. It was a holy and beautiful house that mirrored, here on earth, the holy and beautiful house of God in heaven.
That’s what our churches are supposed to be. That’s what our families and lives are supposed to be—holy and beautiful places, habitations for the presence of God, showing on earth what it’s like to have God’s holy and beautiful habitation in heaven.
Yet the Israelites ignored God and replaced Him with false gods. His presence left, and His enemies came in and desecrated the holy place, which was now in ruins. As they faced this harsh reality, the Israelites realized the truth about their spiritual condition.
What’s the truth about your own spiritual condition? About your life, your family, your church? Are they holy, beautiful, and pleasant places where Christ’s name is glorified? Or are they in ruins?
