Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. —Colossians 3:18
During my single years, I worked a job as a supervisor. I lived in my own house, and I paid my own bills. Independence was not a problem for me.
Then I got married, and there were some problems. But I desired to be a godly wife, so I went to the Bible for the answer.
Among the things I discovered that I was supposed to do was one that was hard for an independent woman to swallow—submit! As I continued to search Scripture, I discovered what biblical submission was and what it was not. Ultimately, submission is like offering a gift—voluntarily placing myself under a divinely appointed leader.
The Bible tells me that the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church (Eph. 5:23). The way that I do this biblical submission thing is by submitting to God. And as I submit to God, I submit to my husband.
My submission to my husband is a beautiful thing, and it brings God applause.
