This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. —Exodus 15:2
What exactly is worship? Is it an activity, a structured event, a state of mind?
Worship isn’t just singing certain types of music or even singing at all. Instead, worship is our response to God’s revelation of Himself. In other words, when God shows us His person, His provision, and His power, it’s only fitting for us to respond with awe, wonder, and gratitude.
In Exodus 14, we read that God dramatically parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could be saved from the Egyptian army. God’s people responded in worship, singing:
The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
This is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him. (Ex. 15:2)
Worship goes beyond singing songs during a set time on Sunday morning. Each of us can respond to God with awe and wonder every day as He displays His power.
Make it Personal
Ask the Lord to help you respond with awe, wonder, and gratitude at the things He does in your life today.
