I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. —Psalm 23:6 ESV
As you read through Psalm 27, you’ll see in the first three verses that David had a freedom from fear even in terrifying circumstances. In verse 5, he finds safety and security in the Lord. In verse 6, he is victorious over his enemies and experiences thanksgiving and joy. In verse 13, he gets faith, hope, and courage.
David didn’t ask for any of these outcomes; he just asked for more of God (v. 4). But when he experienced more of God, he got all of this and more—not just in this life, but forever. Just a few psalms earlier, David said, “I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (23:6). Choosing this lifestyle now of dwelling in the house of the Lord is what we’re going to spend an eternity doing— gazing upon His beauty, discovering more and more about His wisdom and grace.
Let’s start that journey today and make the one thing that David chose the one thing that we choose as well.
