Christ Is King

August 7, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” —John 16:33

Not long ago I sat in a hotel lobby, catching up with a longtime friend I’d not seen in several years. She has been a faithful lover and servant of Christ since she was a teen. But storms came crashing in around her when she learned that her husband of thirty-some years, who had served in ministry for decades, had been living a lie for a long time.

As I listened to her story, I was struck that she wasn’t emotionally overwrought, nor has she been overcome by her husband’s sinful choices. She models a quiet strength and peace because the betrayal and crises brought on by her faithless husband are not “king” in her life. Christ is King. Nor are those life-altering calamities final. Christ is with her in her present pain. And beyond the heartaches of this life, He has promised her a glorious, eternal future that will make all she has suffered become dim in comparison.
