Our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly wait for a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. —Philippians 3:20
This world is not our home. Our citizenship is in heaven. We long for a country that God is building. It’s not temporal, earthly, or man-made. It’s God-made. And our citizenship is in that country.
We’re living as foreigners and strangers in this world, but our citizenship is in the presence of Christ. That’s why as long as we are here on this earth, we can suffer when we need to. We can endure and persevere under hard times. We can love well. We can serve well. We can have peace. And we can have joy.
We’re eagerly expecting our life in heaven any day now and longing for it to come. One day the clouds will split, and the Lord Jesus will return. Then we will be forever with the Lord.
That perspective should change everything about how we live, function, endure, love, and talk. It should affect everything about how we live our life during this short stay on earth.
