The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. —Genesis 3:6
If it hadn’t seemed so attractive, do you think Eve would have fallen for Satan’s offer? If that fruit had been crawling with worms, would she have considered disobeying God? Of course not. What makes Satan’s offers so alluring and so deceptive is that they look so right.
Eve didn’t stop to evaluate what was really happening. If she could have imagined the deadly consequences of her choice—in her own life, in her relationship with God, in her children, and in every human being that would ever live—would she have listened to Satan’s lie and disobeyed God?
But we have precisely the same problem. Very few Christians seriously consider the consequences of their choices. We live our lives responding to the people, circumstances, and influences around us—adopting the latest fads, and embracing the lifestyles and priorities of our friends. It feels so right; it seems so innocent. But we end up angry, frustrated, trapped, and overwhelmed. We have fallen for a lie.
Make it Personal
Ask the Lord to help you fully consider the consequences before making any choices—both big and small.
