Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. —Psalm 103:2 ESV
One year for my birthday, a friend gave me a journal called Counting My Blessings, designed for writing down all the ways the Lord had blessed me. The pages contained five blank lines for each day’s remembrance. How long could it take to write down five things every day? I kept that up for the better part of that year. It was a rich season of gratitude. And now, whenever my tank’s running a little low, I can go back and read over those daily lists of blessings. Page after page. Instance after instance.
Try journaling your own blessings, both physical and spiritual. Everything you can think of, write it down. See how long the list might go.
Tangible reasons for being grateful to God upon every remembrance of His goodness. What a gift of worship and thanks to the Lord, not to mention a gift to yourself—even to your children and grandchildren and others who might one day read your lists themselves and be encouraged to choose gratitude.
