“Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” —Deuteronomy 8:3
We eat and get full, but then a funny thing happens—we get hungry again.
Our bodies need food every day. When God provided manna in the desert, He told the Israelites, “I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day” (Ex. 16:4).
Each person had to gather his own manna, and he couldn’t save any overnight except the day before the Sabbath. Collecting the bread was a daily thing.
Just like our bodies, our souls require daily food. I cannot become the woman God wants me to be if I’m not spending time in His Word each day. Yesterday’s nourishment isn’t good enough.
When Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” He wasn’t just teaching us to trust God to supply our daily physical needs, but He was also reminding us of the importance of seeking from Him the spiritual nourishment our souls need each day.
