Despite the Tears

June 30, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. —Psalm 56:8 ESV

If you’re a parent, you’ve most likely experienced pain because of your child. Perhaps they’re making foolish or sinful choices. Perhaps there’s some painful circumstance in their life, causing you to wonder whatever is to become of them. Or perhaps the worst has happened, and you’re wrestling with a grief that seems insurmountable.

But there’s no situation into which our redeeming God cannot step, bringing supernatural help, healing, and hope. It might take time, and it might take you places you never expected to go. It probably won’t look the way you would have scripted the story. But God is faithful, and He loves your kids more than you ever could. He will show up.

When He does, I suspect, He will be fragrant with the incense of your prayers (Rev. 5:8) and carrying the container where He’s captured every tear you’ve shed (Psalm 56:8). And in time, He’ll have someone in mind who will need the encouragement of your testimony about God’s faithfulness and grace even when your eyes were filled with tears.

Make it Personal

How has God encouraged you during difficult periods? Who might He be calling you to minister to today out of what He’s taught you?
