“How long will these people despise me? How long will they not trust in me despite all the signs I have performed among them?” —Numbers 14:11
We tend to think of fear as just a weakness that we can’t help. But fear is unbelief, and God says that unbelief is to despise Him.
Unbelief greatly displeases God. It puts Him to the test, and it can easily become a pattern in our lives, as it did for the Israelites, who tested God ten times (Num. 14:22).
When we walk in doubt, unbelief, and fear in one area of life, we’ll find that fear escalates and expands, and it begins to impede us in other areas. It becomes a pattern.
Unbelief keeps us from being able to experience the fulfillment of God’s promises, just as the Israelites who chose fear never got to experience the land of “milk and honey” (v. 8) that God had promised to them.
Unbelief can be forgiven, but there will still be consequences. Don’t let your fears get in the way of embracing God’s best for your life.
