Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. —Proverbs 11:25 ESV
We all need to be encouraged in our lives. But there’s also a flip side to the coin—we all need to be an encourager.
We read in Scripture that God Himself is an encourager (Rom. 15:4). So when we encourage others, we are being like Him. We are coming alongside them and encouraging them as God encourages us. And as God ministers His grace and encouragement to us, we then become channels of His encouragement and grace in the lives of others.
Even if we’re going through a difficult time, we shouldn’t wait around to be encouraged. Instead, we need to go out and speak words of life to those around us. Because what goes around will come around.
Proverbs 11:25 says that if we “water” or encourage others, we will in turn receive the encouragement we need. We will reap what we sow. Our circumstances probably won’t go away. But as we encourage others, God will give us courage and confidence in the midst of a hard place.
