The Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. —Genesis 2:7
A few years ago, I became a grandmother to twin girls who were born early. My whole family knew it would be hard, and we were prepared for some time in the NICU.
I wasn’t prepared for baby Addie’s lung to collapse and to spend my first twenty-four hours as a grandma by a bassinet in the NICU. All I knew was that if God didn’t breathe into this child, she wouldn’t breathe, because the doctors said there was nothing else they could do.
Right there in the hospital, I got on my knees before God and prayed all the Scriptures I knew, asking God to breathe life into that little girl. And I’m so thankful that He did.
Listen, you’re not promised your next breath, or that you’ll wake up tomorrow morning or get home tomorrow night—except that God chooses to breathe into your life. We are utterly dependent on Him! He is worthy of every breath we breathe.
