Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live by faith. —Galatians 3:11
The faith that brings us to Christ in the first place is the faith that will keep us in relationship with Him for the rest of our lives. When we receive and believe, a lifetime of receiving and believing has begun. First Corinthians 13:13 tells us that, along with hope and love, faith “remains.”
“The righteous one will live by his faith” is our confession, the words by which we declare that what Christ began in us by the gospel He will continue and complete by the gospel. It is our acknowledgement that just as we could not redeem ourselves, neither can we sanctify ourselves. And so we are desperately glad that faith abides.
This is not a cause for spiritual passivity, however. Faith remains active, compelling us forward into trust and obedience. As we continue on in this life of faith, we get to know our Savior more and more. No life compares to this life of faith.
Make it Personal
Reflect on some “main events” of your life since you received Christ. How might these have turned out had you not lived by faith?
