Now in this hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? Now if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with patience. —Romans 8:24–25
The gap between what we understand about God’s ways and what we feel about them, especially when life takes us into a foggy place, is where faith moves from theory to practice. When we cannot see but can only trust, that’s when our understanding of living by faith grows.
Habakkuk the prophet was in the fog. God gave him a promise, but He didn’t show him the whole plan. He did let Habakkuk in on just enough detail for him to realize that faith was the only way forward. It would be the promise and the credibility of the Promiser that would fortify Habakkuk’s faith—and that was actually better than knowing the plan.
It is by faith that we move forward in Christ. Even the densest fog won’t change that.
