When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe. —Matthew 27:54 ESV
Are we “filled with awe” as the soldiers were on the day Jesus died? The miracles that happened that day show the supernatural power of God. We should be in awe in believing what God can do in changing lives, granting forgiveness, and making all things new.
In his commentary on Matthew, Charles Spurgeon said:
These first miracles in connection with the death of Christ were types, typical of spiritual wonders that will be continued until He comes again. Rocky hearts are rent, graves of sin are opened, those who have been dead in trespasses and sins and buried in sepulchers of lust and evil are quickened and come out from among the dead.2
There was nothing too hard for God at Calvary. And there’s nothing too hard for Him today.
