Submit as free people, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as God’s slaves. —1 Peter 2:16
Most of us know from experience that when sin of any kind is given a chance to take up residence in our hearts, it doesn’t stay confined to its own corner. If not confessed and repented of, sooner or later it will affect our entire persons—our physical and emotional well-being, our demeanor, our whole outlook.
Unforgiveness is no different. When we fail to deal with hurts God’s way, when we harbor resentment in our hearts, that bitterness will fester like an infection and work its way into our system until we start viewing everything through the eyes of hurt.
So, as I try to bring God’s Word to bear on this subject of forgiveness and on the painful circumstances you may have experienced, my desire isn’t to add to your burden but to spare you more pain. I long for you to enjoy the blessing, the freedom, and the transformational power of walking in obedience.
Bitterness really can be overcome by the power and grace of our great God.
