Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. —Psalm 127:3
When I first got married, I loved my career. When I started having children, however, I began to realize this was a greater responsibility. So, I made coming home to be a mom my career. It wasn’t easy to do, but I wanted to be a woman of the Word.
As I studied what the Bible had to say about children, I realized that our culture no longer values motherhood because our culture no longer values children. It thinks our assets are our paycheck and the stuff we can accumulate. However, God has a different idea. He said that all children are gifts.
That means that children born out of wedlock are gifts. It includes children in orphanages or foster care, children in single parent homes, stepchildren, abused or neglected children, special-needs kids, even children that are stillborn—they are all gifts from God.
If you’re involved in nurturing, you have to be available to see these kids as God sees them. They are an inheritance from God.
Make it Personal
Ask God to examine your heart attitude toward children. Does it line up more with what His Word says or with our culture?
