God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. —Romans 5:5
We shouldn’t be surprised when an unbeliever does something inconsiderate. God is love, and when people don’t know Him, they’re not likely to truly show love. But someone who knows God doesn’t have an excuse.
Romans 5:5 tells us that God’s love has been “poured” into our hearts. God’s love is there; we have access to it. But we’ve got to be willing to appropriate that love and live it out.
In 1 Corinthians, Paul lists some characteristics that show if we really love one another. If we love others, we will:
• Respect each other.
• Nurture other believers spiritually.
• Esteem others as better than ourselves.
• Speak well of other servants of God.
• Have a willingness to be wronged without retaliating.
• Be willing to yield our rights.
If we’re in a relationship with Jesus, we can truly love by the power of God’s Spirit. Ask God to pour out His love through us today.
