Daily Reflections

Gripped by God

January 6, 2025 Portia Collins

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.” —John 10:28

As much as I’d like to think that, left to my own devices, I would choose to honor God’s commands, I wouldn’t. I often reflect on my conversion and my life as a Christian. For many years, I wanted to believe that there was something within me capable of choosing to truly honor God. As with many other things in my life, I wanted to take credit for my restored relationship with God. I wanted to believe that, on my own, I was good enough to obey God and was only in need of a little help. But the truth is, I was—and am—in dire need of divine intervention. We, like the psalmist, need continually to pray that he would hold us up, so that we’re able to live for him, safe in his grip. . . .

Once we are gripped by God, we are kept safely by him. Through persecution, trials, and even through our failures, we are held by God. 1

Make it Personal

Thank God that once you became a follower of Christ, you are His forever—and that nothing can snatch you from His hand.
