For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. —Habakkuk 2:3
As Habakkuk was both a prophet and an intercessor, it pleased God to inform him of what was to come, and not just the next event but all of them. God wanted Habakkuk to know His plans from start to finish.
God has done the same for us. We know what’s going to happen to the proud—they will be judged. We know what’s going to happen to the faithful—they will be rescued. These are themes that run all through the Scripture. And we know that what God promised will happen in His appointed time.
Has He withheld some details? Of course. But in telling us how it all ends—which is not an ending at all but a beginning—God is equipping us with hope, faith, and endurance. As Peter phrased it, God has “given us everything required for life and godliness” (2 Pet. 1:3).
God has given away the ending . . . and provided all we need until then.
