Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise! —Psalm 119:154 ESV
God has promised to give life to his people, through Christ. And so we cry to him with the psalmist, “Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise.” The word “plead” here means to conduct a legal case or suit. So the psalmist says, Contend for me. Our confidence rests in the fact that Jesus has not lost one case, and he never will. He redeems us by delivering us from bondage, through the precious payment of his own blood. God the Son is the only qualified One, who pleads before God the Father, giving us life through God the Holy Spirit.
Is someone bearing false witness against you? Is the enemy accusing you? When we ask Jesus to plead for us, he pleads with his divine voice and redeems with his holy blood. Our salvation is etched in stone, and that stone is the solid Rock on whom we stand. His pleading voice silences all others.1
